Instruction for Authors

The peer-review process

If you have a scientific paper on the subject of built heritage that you would like to publish in the Transsylvania Nostra Journal, please read the following document carefully.

The evaluation process

The evaluation process will be a double-blind review (the evaluators will not know the name of the paper's author, nor the author will know the name of his evaluators); the members of the Editorial Board will do an initial evaluation, establishing the referents who seem the most suitable to make an expertise on the subject of the paper, and who can carefully analyse it.

Evaluation criteria

During the evaluation process the following criteria will be taken into consideration:

  • technical evaluation;
  • importance of the research field;
  • knowledge of the subject's field;
  • the structure of the paper;
  • the importance of the subject in the studied field;
  • contributions to knowledge.

The articles should be written in one of the following languages: Romanian, English, German or Hungarian. If you have a translation in English (if the article itself is not written in English), please send that too.

Editing instructions

We draw our authors’ attention to the fact that since January 2016, the editing requirements for the bibliography of the Transsylvania Nostra journal have changed. For future issues we will use the author-date, or so-called Harvard reference system, with parenthetical in-text citations and corresponding list of references. We kindly ask our authors to submit, from now on, their articles edited according to the following requirements! Otherwise, we will be unable to accept the submitted study!

Use of footnotes is still accepted and recommended in cases where the author wishes to add notes accompanying or supplementing the main text. If in a footnote reference is made to a publication as well, please use the in-text citation form.

The basic form of parenthetical in-text citations:

last name of author/editor (no comma) year of publication (comma) page number (indicating the page number/s is mandatory, unless the reference applies for the entire publication).

All bibliographic items shown in the main text should be included in the alphabetical list of references from the end of the article!

You may use special characters, if needed

In order to respect the journal`s policy, we kindly ask of you not to mention names of private institutions. If their mentioning is inevitable, we recommend you to describe only their profile, or to refer to them (ex. company specialized on electrical installations) without naming them.

In the references (in-text citations, footnotes, list of references), please do not cite any sources (especially online sources) whose scientific validity can not be verified (eg. wikipedia-type sites).

Prior to being published, the paper has to go through the following steps:

We would like to inform you that in the Transsylvania Nostra journal are accepted only unpublished works.

Step 1

The papers should be submitted electronically, via e-mail, as attachments ( or or on electronic support (CD, DVD, flashdrive, etc.) to the editorial office, at the following address:

Editorial Office Transsylvania Nostra (Breaza St., No. 14, 400253 Cluj-Napoca, Cluj County, ROMANIA)

Step 2

Editors will select the articles which comply with the submission requirements. The articles which fail to meet the submission requirements will not be reviewed.

Step 3

Two members of the Editorial Board will do an initial review on the article's scientific quality and appoint two referees for a specialized complete review.

Step 4

The referees, specialists on the article's subject, will do the complete review of the article.

Step 5

Articles which correspond to these scholarly standards will be proposed for publication. The articles written according to the standards but need some changes or improvements will be returned to their authors. Articles which do not meet the scientific standards will be rejected.

Step 6

As a result of the evaluation process that will take approximately 40 days, the authors will be notified about the status of their paper:

- accepted for publication, with no changes needed

- accepted for publication with small changes needed

- accepted for publication with major changes needed

- rejected

The authors will also receive an evaluation feedback form of their article.

After the evaluation process the authors will be invited to enter a waiting list for getting published or to continue the evaluation process with making the required changes. Only the papers accepted by the Editorial Board are going to be published.

Step 7

Before printing, the edited article will be sent to the author for revision in .pdf format. If the authors notice any errors, they will announce the editors within two days. Otherwise, the sent version of the article will be printed.

We would like to draw the authors’ attention, that from the moment the article is received by the editorial office, it is considered the final version and the authors will have no possibilities to resend it again. If corrections will be necessary, the editors will indicate them, mentioning also a deadline for this process. After the layout editing, only corrections that do not affect it will be accepted. Even so, if the authors notice errors from their own omissions and the corrections are absolutely necessary, thus changing the settings of the articles and illustrations, the additional costs resulting from this will be covered by the authors themselves.

The authors of the articles will receive two free copies of the issue in which their paper has been published.
